In response to the rising fear of terrorist strikes on Uganda, the police have indicated that they will take over security in places of worship and other public places with large gatherings, including hotels, shopping malls, stadia and markets in the city.

“Due to the terror upsurge in the region and police’s readiness to counter it, we are scaling up our watch on places of worship that have not got [adequate] security measures in place. Police will control all the accesses to such places [with large gatherings],” said Kampala metropolitan police commander, Andrew Kaweesi.

“We’re going to give walk-through security machines and handheld metal detectors to all churches and mosques in the capital city starting from this week,” Kaweesi said.
